Sometimes, the things you say you’ll do “one day” really do happen. And when they do, you realize that everything unfolds for a reason, in its own time. Making life-changing moves abroad is more possible than you think.
About ten years ago, my then long-distance boyfriend and I were swapping photos of places we wanted to visit. One of those places was Paris, and we told ourselves we’d get there someday. I had completely forgotten about those messages, until we were actually in Paris together and I stumbled upon our old conversation.
In this post, I want to share my Paris experience: what we ate, the places we loved, and the flavors that made the city unforgettable. Whether you’re dreaming of Paris or planning your visit, here’s a glimpse into a journey ten years in the making.
Restaurants We Tried and Loved in Paris
Chartier Bouillon
If you want authentic French cuisine without breaking the bank, Chartier Bouillon is the place to go. The atmosphere feels like stepping back in time, and the food is classic and delicious, perfect for anyone looking for a true Parisian dining experience. Note that there are multiple restaurants with the name Bouillon throughout the city, make sure to try one!
Le Petit Italien
This spot was a bit of a secret, our French-speaking friends got us in while it was technically closed! Known for its Instagram fame, we indulged in some decadent chocolate mousse that was worth every bite. Definitely a hidden gem.
Fresh Juice from the Weekend Market
If you’re lucky enough to stumble upon a fresh vegetable stand at one of Paris’ weekend markets, grab a fresh juice from the vendor. It’s a refreshing, energizing treat to keep you going as you explore the city.
Le Marlin de la Galette
A culinary experience that left us stuffed and happy. The cozy setting and flavorful dishes make it a memorable stop for anyone who loves French food.
Hot Chocolate from Angelina
I know it sounds cliché, but this was the best hot chocolate I’ve ever had, rich, smooth, and divine. If you want to warm up on a chilly Paris day, this is the spot.
Casa Festa
A cute, quaint restaurant where the waiters treated us like family, welcoming us with a glass of wine and plenty of humor. We finished our night with some of the most delicious pizza, perfect for a relaxed, cozy evening.

Food to Try in Paris
If you want to eat like a Parisian, here are some dishes and treats you shouldn’t miss:

A classic, flaky pastry filled with chocolate. Perfect for breakfast or an afternoon treat. - Croissant
Buttery, flaky, and essential. Who doesn’t dream of biting into a warm croissant in Paris? Don’t stop at one, have a few from different bakeries. - Beef Bourguignon
A rich, comforting beef stew simmered in red wine with onions, carrots, and herbs. Cozy and deeply flavorful. - Escargots (Snails)
I didn’t try them, but my partner did, covered in garlic, butter, and olive oil. The sauce alone was amazing, even if the texture isn’t for everyone. - Onion Soup (Soupe à l’Oignon)
A warm, savory soup topped with crusty bread and melted cheese. It’s a classic that feels like a hug in a bowl. - Crème Brûlée
Creamy custard with a caramelized sugar crust. Simple, elegant, and absolutely necessary. - Crêpes
Available everywhere in both sweet and savory forms. Whether it’s Nutella and banana or ham and cheese, it’s a go-to street food you can’t skip. - Croque Monsieur

Final Thoughts
Paris is a city full of wonder, flavor, and history, and this trip helped me finally understand what all the hype is about. I used to think Paris was a cliché, but being there changed that. The layers of history, the way art surrounds you at every turn, and the way people truly know how to enjoy life made me fall in love with this place.
I hope my experiences inspire you to wander a little, try something new, and soak up the magic in your own way.
